Dressing the “Diamond” Body Shape

Special Features

The “diamond” body type tends to have similar width hips and shoulders and a fuller waistline, and you may carry a little more weight in your upper legs, while your arms tend to be slender. The focus on dressing a Diamond body type is to balance your shoulders and bust with your hips while creating a waist. This can be achieved by choosing clothing that adds curves and fullness to your upper body while choosing pants and skirts that will create a lean and lengthening affect on your lower body.

What to Wear

If you are looking to create more of an hour-glass shape you’ll want to wear clothes that create a waistline for you by choosing tops and blouses that taper in at the waist or belted and flare below slightly. This will create an illusion of curves. If you want focus drawn toward your face choose styles of necklines such as off-the-shoulder, boat-neck, wide V or U shapes. This is one body shape that can benefit from structured shoulders or embellishments around the bust and shoulders or larger size sleeve shapes, such as capped, flutter or princess. These styles will all help to balance out your shoulders and hips. For your bottom half wear dark colors with brighter colors of soft flowing fabric on top to balance you out nicely. The styles to wear on the bottom are best when straight or relaxed fit for pants, skirts can be either straight or have slight flare or gathers. An ‘A’ line skirt is a great option for you creating smooth clean lines while changing your shape.

A scoop neckline can be very flattering and the cinched in waist with flare below the waist creates an hour glass shape with a softness and flow of the draping fabric.

What Not to Wear

  • Avoid tight fabrics
  • Avoid Puffy or bulky material on top and bottom
  • Avoid Empire waist tops because this style accentuates your body type
  • Avoid baggy and shapeless bottoms because these will not create a nice curvy shape
  • Avoid clingy skirts or dresses because these make it harder for you to hide what you want to hide
